M

amu was remembered as a strong, hardworking and straightforward woman, full of faith. Her family writes of a woman who cared for her late husband, children and others in need before herself — a person whose doors and heart stayed open.

She worked as a trader and farmer before retiring, and the values she gave her family were practical as well as spiritual: respect people, pray before eating, work with your hands, live in peace, and never forget where you come from.

“You were my grandmother, but you were also my home.” — Blessing Gold

Family biography

Roots, enterprise and a life of faith.

The family biography records that Josephine was born in 1941 in Omoku, the third child in a family of nine. Raised with discipline, resilience and a strong community spirit, she grew into a soft-spoken woman whose warmth reached far beyond her home.

Her marriage to Chief George Adiela Samuel Ile was blessed with eight children. She supported her household through trading, agriculture, yam and akamu businesses, meeting each responsibility with courage and determination.

Her Christian faith, service to family, and commitment to unity became enduring parts of the legacy she left to her children, stepchildren, grandchildren and community.

Full family biography

Early life. Josephine Oyibolalu Ile, née Nanu Osoh, was born in 1941 into the family of the late Chief Peter Osoh of the Umu-Iyasara family in Omoku Town and Mrs. Grace Ichesi Osoh of the Obofoboh-Agwolo family. She was the third child in a family of nine. She spent part of her early life in northern Nigeria, where she learned to speak and understand Hausa, and was raised with discipline, resilience and a strong sense of community.

Marriage and family. She married Chief George Adiela Samuel Ile, and their home was built on respect, mutual understanding and shared dreams. Their union was blessed with eight children. After her husband’s death in November 1995, Josephine stood firmly through more than three decades of widowhood, nurturing her children and keeping the family focused, steadfast and united.

Work and enterprise. Josephine refused to be a passive observer of the family’s economic needs. She traded food items and yam, travelled for business, and later built a respected akamu business that gave her more time for her children. She also worked in agriculture and approached every business and domestic responsibility with courage, diligence and resolve.

Faith and legacy. She worshipped with her late husband at the First African Church in Omoku and later joined Gospel Deliverance Mission in 1999, remaining a committed Christian until her passing. Her life was marked by service, love, friendship, generosity, faith and dedication to family.

Her last days. After years of health challenges, Josephine passed away on 2 May 2026 at the age of 85. Her family mourns her deeply while holding on to the legacy of fortitude, love and faith she left for generations to come.
